The National Association of Realtors just released the May/June 2015 Realtor Magazine AKA the 30 under 30 issue. I haven't seen the copy in person yet, but wanted to share the photo I was sent to my biggest supporters right away.
The 30 under 30 Award was one of the first goals I gave myself as a young agent a couple years ago. I figured that if I had a chance at winning, it would be in a couple years when I was 29.
I got a call in February from a writer for Realtor Magazine saying that they had narrowed the list down to 100 people, and that I was on the list. They wanted to ask me a couple follow up questions so they could narrow down the list to the top 50.
About a month went by and I found out that I was in the top 50, which is considered a "finalist." I was excited beyond words. To be a finalist at 27 was as great of an accomplishment as I could hope for.
The 50 finalists were expected to do a social media campaign to collect "votes" because 1 of the top 30 was selected through online voting. The other 29 were selected by the N.A.R. Committee. I was a bit uncomfortable soliciting votes, so my parents helped by reaching out to close friends and family.
Shortly after sending emails to friends and family, and before the voting started, I received a call from the National Association of Realtors. In fact, I missed the call because I had appointments all day, and when I got home around 9:30 that night, I had a Facebook message from someone I hadn't heard of before.
The message said, in so many words, that he was with the National Association of Realtors, and wanted me to call ASAP. At this point it was late, and he was in Chicago, so I knew he wouldn't answer if I called right away.
So I didn't sleep at all that night and called out to the N.A.R. HQ in Chicago at 6:00am the next day. Julie Forner, the creative director for the magazine answered and told me that I was selected to be one of the "30s" and said I had also been selected to be on the cover of the magazine. I had to keep it a secret (VERY hard to do) but they would pay for my flight out, put me up at a hotel, and have a full day photo shoot with 5 other "30s".
I couldn't believe it! My Dad texted me first thing in the morning asking if I got a hold of anyone, and I told him I didn't because I wanted to tell him in person. So I quickly got ready and drove up to my parents house. My Dad was frustrated that I hadn't heard back from N.A.R., so I waited a few minutes, then spilled the beans to my parents.
My dad couldn't stop laughing, and my Mom was in shock.
So fast forward a few weeks and I flew out to Chicago (the day they had the tornados out there in April), met the rest of the "Cover 6", was taken out to dinner, stayed in a swanky hotel on Michigan Ave, and woke up the next morning for a full day of photos and hopped on a plane that night to fly home, because I had my Bridal Shower that weekend.
The month I've spent a lot of time reflecting on the award. I don't feel qualified, but am so grateful at the love and support of my family, friends, and clients. So many people believed in me when I didn't deserve to be believed in. I can't wait to see what the future holds!
If you've gotten this far through my email, you now can see what I've been so anxious to see/share:
The photo/location they chose for the cover was the last photo they took of the day. The others were set around the architectural salvage museum, where the shoot took place. I'm hoping they send some of those photos too, but for now, that's the one I have!
Thank you for all of your support, love, and guidance. It's been an exciting year, and May is proving to be an extra exciting month.
