A sold-out crowd of more than 450 people enjoyed an outstanding 2016 PSAR Installation Celebration held Nov. 14 at the Hilton Bayfront Hotel. The event was held during the 2015 National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) Conference and Expo.
The evening began with the Pledge of Allegiance by Robert Calloway, founding president of the Veterans Association of Real Estate Professionals, San Diego chapter. It continued with sponsor videos followed by introductions of dignitaries, including State Senators Joel Anderson and Marty Block; National City Mayor Ron Morrison; San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister. Also introduced were a number of statewide and national professionals attending the NAR convention. Also, the 2015 PSAR board of directors were acknowledged and thanked.
Recipients of special awards were announced. REALTOR® of the Year awards were presented to Sean Hillier representing East County and Shun Wakita representing South County. PSAR Affiliate of the Year awards were presented to Steve Buice representing East County and Gary Mouritzen representing South County.
Also at the event, PSAR’s 2016 board officers and directors were sworn in. They include: Anthony Andaya, 2016 president; Sarah Heck, president-elect; Sam Calvano, secretary/treasurer; Carey Guthrie, past president.
Additional 2016 PSAR board members include Arthur Armagost, Robert Calloway, Robert Cromer, Merrie Espina, Minerva Garcia, Angela Jenkins, Rafael Perez, Tom Peyton, and Sharon Schultz. Also serving on the 2016 PSAR board as an affiliate director will be Debi Ciolfe.
In his speech, Andaya said, “I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to serve as one of our association’s youngest presidents ever. Much of this I attribute to being surrounded by great folks like our members, as well as the YPN members.
“My promise is that I will honor this position and its ancestry while leading and progressing our association the best way I can. I will bring new perspectives to our industry because I am a millennial career REALTOR® who has full intentions to stay in this industry for a lifetime. Our industry is filled with some of the brightest and most talented leaders and I am humbled to be invited to be a guest at that table. As the torch is passed to me by our current president Carey Guthrie I truly look forward to running with it in style. This is just the beginning of my uphill run and I look forward to ascending to the peak with the help of all of our members.
This will be a year of growth for PSAR as our volunteer leadership has done an outstanding job of earning some higher level leadership positions at the state and national levels. With great leadership, we can anticipate a growing number of eager followers with whom we look forward to leading and providing endless opportunities. PSAR will continue to provide all San Diego County REALTORS® and affiliates with a level of service that is nothing short of phenomenal. We will continue to strive for excellence within the association arena. We will provide our local members with the comfort, protection and local voice they will need in order to remain some of San Diego’s finest REALTORS®. I look forward to `Breaking Into The Future’ with all of you.”
In addition to the break dancers, another highlight of the evening was a marriage proposal. At the end of the program, Andaya returned to the stage and introduced family members and close friends. He ended by saying that the one person he had not been called up to the stage was his girlfriend of the past six years, Miriam Morales. He called her to the stage and said he couldn't see going through this journey without her. So, he got down on one knee and popped the question. She accepted to thundering applause.
