But did you know that Paula once worked for a telecommunications company that answered the phones for shopping TV channels, including QVC and HSN? “One day we would help people purchase exercise equipment, the next day it would be vitamin supplements. We took orders for lots of different products,” said Paula, who worked 10 years for the company, based in Chatsworth, Calif. “The first two years I answered the phones, then I worked in IT fixing the computers for eight years.”
Paula grew up in the San Fernando Valley (“I was a Valley Girl,” she said). After graduating from Canoga Park High School (class of 1994), Paula thought about moving to San Diego. “Growing up, whenever I visited some of our family members who lived in San Diego, I would tell them that someday I would live here,” Paula said. “But then the job in Chatsworth kept me in LA.”
Eventually, in October 2005, she moved to San Diego and started working with her sister Araceli Gonzalez, a REALTOR®. Paula joined McMillin Realty, where she remains today (the company is now called Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate McMillin Realty). “I’ve been with McMillin since the start of my real estate career,” Paula said. “I enjoy real estate because it gives me an opportunity to travel.”
Paula and her husband (they were married in 2015) have traveled in recent years to beach destinations in Mexico, Hawaii and the Dominican Republic. “We loved the beauty of the Dominican Republic, the jungles, waterfalls and all the animals. We saw monkeys and the lizards are huge,” Paula said.
2015 was a milestone year not only because of Paula’s wedding. She also was diagnosed with endometrial cancer last year. “Because it affected my uterus, I cannot have children,” Paula said. “But, we’re looking into a surrogate. It was a life-changing event, and it led me to revive my real estate career and get more committed, plus to get more involved in my real estate community.”
Paula enjoys PSAR because of the people. “I love the staff and our members,” she said. “Everyone is always willing to help, go the extra mile and do whatever they can for your benefit. It’s a great, great Association.”
