But did you know that Cristina served as first lady of Mexicali? “Our mother passed away from leukemia in May 2001 at a time when my father was serving as city mayor of Mexicali,” said Cristina. “So, until his term ended in December of that year, I served as his first lady at ceremonies and city events. I enjoyed very much that time with my father.”
Cristina grew up in Mexicali and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy in Calexico. Following her graduation in 1991 from Tecnologico de Monterrey with a degree in architecture, Cristina joined Hermosillo & Associates, a design and construction company founded by her father in 1963. Over the years, she has worked in a number of different roles ranging from project management to sales, leasing and marketing for the group's industrial and residential developments.
She took time off from working at the company in 1996 for the birth of son Mario and in 2008 for the birth of daughter Cristina. She has returned to the family business to work on various projects ranging from housing communities in Mexicali to industrial and manufacturing facilities in various Mexican cities for such firms as DAEWOO, Sanyo, Raychem, Accuride and Rockwell Semiconductors. In 2002, she coordinated construction documents for more than 20 Waldo’s Dollar Mart stores in Baja California, Mexico City, Tamaulipas and Nuevo Leon. In 2003, she was the design project manager on a Rosarito Beach Hotel condo project, a manufacturing facility for DJ Ortho and a postgraduate building for CETYS.
Cristina obtained her California real estate sales agent license in 2007 and became a PSAR member that same year. In 2012 she earned a master’s degree in real estate from the University of San Diego.
Hermosillo y Asociados has been a member of the Tijuana Economic Development Corp. since the 1990s. Cristina joined the board of directors in 2013 and was named president and CEO in 2015. “I am involved in coordinating Tijuana economic development strategies and promotional efforts with the purpose of creating more foreign investment opportunities for our city,” she said.
Cristina is married to Dr. Jorge Tagle Rodríguez, a plastic surgeon with offices at the Hospital del Prado in Tijuana. They are raising four children. “When people hear that my husband is a plastic surgeon, it’s fun to watch them gravitate towards him and ask questions about surgery and treatments,” said Cristina.
Cristina works as a REALTOR® with Chula Vista-based EGR Real Estate and broker Estela Ruiz. Cristina said she enjoys PSAR because of the opportunities that it presents.
“PSAR offers investment and business opportunities to its members, networking is excellent and its educational options are up to date on current issues and topics,” she said. “PSAR is where I received my early training. The programs have always been so informative. It’s good to be around outstanding professionals in the business who are willing to share information with you and encourage you in your career.”
